Former Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn Launches New Left-Wing Party

Jeremy Corbyn, the former leader of the Labour Party, is starting a new left-wing party together with Zarah Sultana, also a former Labour member.

“A year after the election, this government has refused to deliver the change that the people expected,” it says. What the new party will look like and what it will be called is not yet clear. Corbyn was a member of the Labour Party for almost 60 years and led the party from 2015 to 2020.

With the announcement, Jeremy Corbyn is now turning his back completely on the Labour Party, the left-wing socialist party he himself was a member of for 59 years. He wants to set up a new party, in his own words “an alternative” to the current governing Labour Party.

He says he has a good reason for this. “One year after the election, this government has refused to deliver the change that the people expected and deserved,” he said in a message on X. “Poverty, inequality and war are not inevitable. Our country must move in a different direction, now,” Corbyn said.
