Google Cloud has signed a multi-million dollar contract with the NATO Communication and Information Agency (NCIA) to provide secure, sovereign cloud capabilities.

The parties call this collaboration a significant step in strengthening NATO‘s digital infrastructure.

The NCIA selected Google Distributed Cloud (GDC) to support the Joint Analysis, Training and Education Centre (JATEC). The Centre will use the infrastructure to modernise operational capabilities and manage confidential workloads.

The core component of Google’s solution is “GDC air-gapped,” which brings cloud services and AI capabilities to fully contained environments. “It enables organisations to perform analytics on their most critical data while maintaining full operational control and compliance with the strictest digital sovereignty requirements,” according to a Google press release.

“NCIA is committed to leveraging next-generation technology, including AI, to strengthen NATO’s operational capabilities and protect the alliance’s digital environment,” said Antonio Calderon, Chief Technology Officer at NCIA.

“With this partnership, we are delivering a secure, resilient, and scalable cloud environment for JATEC that provides optimal protection for highly sensitive data.”
