New Arrest Warrant for Former South Korean President Yoon
Public prosecutors have again issued an arrest warrant for former South Korean president Yoon Suk-yeol. The warrant is related to his trial for abuse of power and obstructing government activities, prosecutor Park Ji-young announced.
Yoon is being prosecuted for his actions in December, when he declared martial law and sent soldiers to parliament to stop members of parliament. He has already been removed from office. The former president is also suspected of falsifying official documents.
“The warrant indicates why detention is necessary, but I cannot elaborate on that,” prosecutor Park said. The details will be discussed in court. Yoon’s lawyers call the arrest warrant “excessive and unnecessary”.
An attempt was also made to arrest Yoon in January, but this failed because he resisted.
