Hezbollah Says It Will Not Surrender Under Pressure From Israel

Hezbollah does not intend to surrender under pressure from Israel, says the leader of the organisation, Naim Qassem.

Israel is pressuring Hezbollah to disarm. “This threat will not force us to surrender,” the leader said in a video message to thousands of supporters who had gathered in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

In September, Israel killed Qassem’s predecessor, Hassan Nasrallah. A ceasefire was reached in November, in which Hezbollah must withdraw from southern Lebanon, near the border with Israel.

Israel is still carrying out attacks despite this. Hezbollah targets are said to be being attacked because the Lebanese government is allegedly doing too little against the organisation supported by Iran.

US envoy Tom Barrack is expected in Lebanon on Monday. He is scheduled to discuss the US demand to disarm Hezbollah by the end of the year with the Lebanese authorities.
